Children Get a Say in Their New Playground

I absolutely love reading articles like this one from the Independence, Missouri Examiner.net. This article is about a group of disabled children who were given the opportunity to design their new playground. The children were given paper and crayons and asked to draw their ideal space. Two of the children based their designs on musical instruments. The Outdoor Rhythm Band would be a great item for their new playground!

I think it is important to have the input of the kids who will be playing on the playground when it is being designed. I remember when I was in the 6th grade and my town announced they were building a new playground. There was a contest to design the playground and everyone who wanted to had the chance to draw out what they wanted. A winner was picked and the playground was built. By the time it was finished I only had a year or so to play on it before I was too big, but I did take my little cousin there to play when I babysat him. Kids are still playing on it today! It was so awesome to see our ideas as kids come to life.
